Rigging Review

Don't buy your next sailboat or sail for a distant shore without a comprehensive Rig Review.  We investigate your rigging from the chain plates up the mast!

Rigging failures don't just happen.  Your rigging is a system of forces acting upon one another through The mast step, the wire, possibly a comprression post (for deck stepped mast), turmbuckles chainplates, tangs, spreaders, mast and the pieces and subsystems that each work to support the mast, the rigging and hence your sailplan.  Thinking of your rigging as a system you may begin to understand the importance of propper sized clevis pins, secure fasteners, reducing or eliminating corrosion which weakens materials, being sure that your cotter pins are all bent (and present!) and so on.

Rig failures are preventable...and it starts with you.  While moving around your boat, no matter her size or complexity, you should always be noticing your cotter pins, chainplates, swaged wire terminals, etc.  If your eye sees rust or something catches your eye, take the moment to investigate.  Run your hands down your wire as you walk past the shrouds and stays.  Do you feel bumps?  Is there rust running down the wire in a barber sign manner?  These can be indications of broken wire strands and failing fittings.  These are real threats to the safety of your boat and crew.  An active approach to investigating your rig will keep you sailing safe.

Going aloft to review your rigging is something that should be done with an eye on personal safety.  Know what you are doing and (more imortantly!) be sure that those assisting you on deck know what they are doing and understand your running rigging!  It is best to have a professional rigger go aloft.  My eyes are always training on areas where issues commonly arrise and always searching for signs that might lead me to keeping you, your crew and vessel safe.  If you are club racing, not a year should pass that your rig is not thoroughly checked aloft.  If you are planning to take a cruise to the islands, the same is true before you leave.=

It's not only about safety!  I have built new mast, designed new mast, constructed custom standing and running rigging, built or repaired most any furling system available manual or power on eyerything from small boats to large sailing yachts.   This puts me in a unique position to make suggestions on how to improve the efficiency and handling ease of any aspect of your boats standing and running rigging and more.

Our comprehensive Rig Review offers a professional investigation of your spars, standing rigging, running rigging and more...from the chainplates and the mast step to the masthead we investigate everything along the way in a systematic apporach.  The report that you receive includes pictures of any issues that are found, an itemized, prioiritized list of issues that need to be addressed and other useful information.  It is prudent of any sailor to inspect or have someone knowledgeable inspect their rigging at least annually or before being off-shore for any amount of time.  Benefit from our experience and professionalism by calling us today.
